Peru, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday congratulated Claudia Sheinbaum, who won the presidential election in Mexico last Sunday.

Similarly, our country reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship with its North American counterpart and wished the president-elect success.

"Peru congratulates Claudia Sheinbaum on her victory in the general elections of the United Mexican States," the government agency expressed on X (formerly Twitter).

"By wishing her success in her administration, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship, within the framework of dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect," it added.

The candidate of the ruling party National Regeneration Movement (Morena) managed to defeat contenders Xochitl Galvez and Jorge Alvarez Maynez by a wide margin in the general elections, making Sheinbaum the first woman to become Mexico's top official.
