The Government of Peru has condemned the terrorist attack that took place in Cristo del Consuelo, in the Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil.

"The Government of Peru condemns the unfortunate terrorist attack that occurred in Cristo del Consuelo, Guayaquil," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Twitter.

Likewise, Peru expressed its solidarity with the sister country of Ecuador for the irreparable loss of human lives, the injured, and the damage caused by the attack.

A large-scale explosion occurred in the Cristo del Consuelo neighborhood early in the morning of Sunday, August 14.

The National Risk and Emergency Management Service (SNGRE) of Ecuador reported that the terrorist attack left 5 dead, 16 injured, as well as 8 houses and 2 cars destroyed.

"It is a declaration of war against the State. Either we unite to face it or the price will be even higher for society," Ecuador's Interior Minister Patricio Carrillo told local media.
