The
presented to investors, regional, and local authorities the technical, financial, and legal aspects of the Choquequirao Cable Car Project, which will be implemented under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
This venture aims to strengthen tourism at this archaeological monument, benefiting Cusco and Apurimac regions.
The project titled "Improvement of Public Tourist Services at the Choquequirao Archaeological Park" has an estimated investment of US$261 million and is expected to attract over one million visitors annually.
This will be possible by reducing the travel time from more than two days to just 20 minutes through a modern cable transport system spanning over 10.6 kilometers, which will connect various areas within both regions.
The presentation event was led by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte. It included the participation of Ministers Jose Salardi (Economy-Finance) Desilu Leon (Foreign Trade-Tourism), and ProInversion Executive Director Luis del Carpio.
Also participating were Governors Werner Salcedo (Cusco region), Percy Godoy (Apurimac region), as well as the provincial and district mayors and social actors from the project's area of influence.
The Head of State highlighted the enhancement of the archaeological monument through the Cable Car Project. Similarly, she called on private investors to participate in the process to bring this architectural gem, regarded by experts as Machu Picchu's sister, to fruition soon.
In turn, ProInversion's head emphasized private investors' confidence in the PPP system and in the country, as well as the support of President Dina Boluarte's government for large investment projects through the public-private partnership model.
"As a result of this trust, between 2023 and the first quarter of 2025, ProInversion has awarded 30 projects worth over US$11 billion in strategic sectors such as ports, roads, health, sanitation, energy, mining, among others," Del Carpio specified.
"Today, we mark a transcendental milestone in the history of the country, Cusco, and Apurímac, with the launch of the Choquequirao Cable Car (System). We are all working to award it this year and make it a reality as soon as possible," he added.
This event was attended by approximately 100 investors, representatives of private companies, cable car project operators, builders, consultants, representatives of business associations, among others.
The project is expected to inject more than S/400 million (above US$108 million) annually into the national economy, boosting sectors such as lodging, food, tourist transportation, local commerce, guide services, handicrafts, and other tourism-related activities.
The awarding of the contract is scheduled for the last quarter of 2025 and will represent a milestone for the tourism sector.
It will not only position this archaeological site as a tourist destination but also help promote the southern circuits and attractions such as Machu Picchu, the Urubamba Valley, Ollantaytambo, Salkantay Mountain, and Huamantay Lake in Cusco, as well as the Ampay National Sanctuary and Saywite Stone in Apurimac.
