The Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces (CCFFAA), Manuel Gomez de la Torre, on Wednesday affirmed that law enforcement agents have been immediately deployed to Arequipa and other parts of the country affected by landslides.

Speaking from Piura, Gomez de la Torre emphasized that they had already been deployed to that part of the country as a result of the El Niño weather phenomenon.

In this sense, the chief of the CCFFAA underscored that as soon as an event of this kind occurs, they immediately come together to provide support to the population.

"A landslide has recently occurred in Secocha (Arequipa), but also in Yauyos and Cañete, and the Armed Forces have been immediately mobilized," Gomez de la Torre remarked.

"You have seen in the media that we are bringing aid, transporting people, and carrying out emergency evacuations. We will always be where we are needed," he added.

On the other hand, the head of the CCFFAA pointed out that the Armed Forces keep working to unblock roads in regions such as Ica, Lima Provinces, Madre de Dios, among others.

As for the internal order control that the Armed Forces will enforce in Puno, according to the declaration of a state of emergency announced on Sunday for seven regions, Gomez de la Torre ruled out that this implies a militarization.

In addition, the CCFFAA head explained that the National Police will support the efforts of the Armed Forces.

"We will restore the internal order hand-in-hand with the population," he stressed.
