During the conversation, Minister Espa informed him of the recent appointment of the consul general in Caracas, who will reopen Peru's consular mission there on September 1.
In turn, Minister Plasencia said Venezuela is working to appoint a high-ranking consular official in Lima soon.
Assistance to communities
Both officials agreed on the positive impact that the reactivation of consular relations will have in ensuring proper assistance and protection for the Peruvian and Venezuelan communities in each country.
Minister Espa highlighted the strengths of the Peruvian community in Venezuela, whose work and degree of integration contribute to said country's economic development.
Likewise, Minister Plasencia said Venezuela is making efforts to improve economic conditions to enable it to receive Venezuelan citizens who decide to voluntarily return to their country of origin.
He indicated that this process will require regional coordination.
Plasencia also acknowledged Peru's solidarity in promoting the integration of the Venezuelan community in Peru.
Lastly, both officials highlighted the longstanding bonds of friendship, fraternity, and solidarity between the peoples of Peru and Venezuela.
