Foreign Minister Carlos Espá received a delegation from the German Parliament’s Committee on Internal Affairs—led by its chair, Member of Parliament Josef Oster—at the Torre Tagle Palace.
The meeting, held yesterday, served to reaffirm both nations' political commitment to the fight against transnational organized crime and drug trafficking.
This meeting marked the beginning of an extensive agenda for the visiting parliamentarians, which includes meetings with national authorities and a visit to other regions of Peru.
Foreign Minister Espá reaffirmed the Peruvian government’s commitment to deepening collaboration with Germany.
"A strategic partner with whom Peru maintains an active political dialogue, a significant economic relationship, and a history of development cooperation spanning over six decades", said.
He further emphasized that public security is a core priority for the Peruvian government, noting that an effective response requires strengthened international cooperation, as transnational criminal organizations operate without regard for national borders.
Both sides discussed the ongoing negotiations for a bilateral cooperation agreement to combat serious and organized crime, which aims to enhance operational collaboration between the interior ministries and police forces of both countries.
They also highlighted the conclusion of negotiations for a cooperation agreement between Peru and the European Union regarding data exchange with Europol, which will bolster the sharing of information to combat serious crime and terrorism.
Finally, Foreign Minister Espá outlined progress on other regional initiatives through which Peru and its neighbors are promoting concrete measures in areas such as border intelligence, illicit financial flows, migration control, and cooperation within the penitentiary system.
He concluded by stating that, in the face of criminal networks operating internationally, Peru will continue to promote coordinated responses that contribute tangibly to the security and well-being of its population.
