Peru, a tourist destination par excellence due to history and gastronomy

17:32 | Lima, Feb. 25.

Peru will participate —as a guest country— in one of the world's top tourism fairs, Anato 2020, set to be held in Bogota (Colombia) on February 26-28. The event will draw exhibitors from 36 countries, which will display their best products and services.

"The Inca country has become a role model in terms of international tourism with a consolidated promotional strategy, which has turned the travel industry into one of the primary engines of its economy," Colombian Travel & Tourism Agency Association (ANATO) CEO Paula Cortez said.

In addition, she noted Peru and Colombia maintain a close relationship that has grown throughout the years, to the extent that, nowadays, both nations have invigorated their tourism flows exponentially.

In this sense, she underlined that Peru has become a tourist destination par excellence, not only for the history of its cities, but also for its gastronomy.

"This is a highly important factor, which attracts travelers from Latin America and the entire world," she said.

Top 10 list

ANATO head commented that, traditionally, Peru is one of the main suppliers of tourists to Colombia, and is among the top 10.

"This growth was noticeable in 2019 because more than 87,340 Peruvian visitors were recorded between January and June, which reveals a 19% expansion, the highest in the top ten list," she explained.

Currently, Peru is the fifth largest source of travelers to Colombia, after the United States, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil.
