Pacific Alliance: Get to know actions to be undertaken by Peru as Pro-Tempore President

13:45 | Lima, Aug. 2.

On August 1, Peru assumed the Pacific Alliance Pro-Tempore Presidency, after having received it from Chile —one member of this regional bloc also composed of Colombia and Mexico.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi told Andina news agency about the main actions that Peru will carry out as head of this bloc.

Here are the first measures to be implemented:

- Bring the opportunities and benefits generated by the Pacific Alliance closer to its citizens —a population of approximately 233 million inhabitants.

- Boost intra-alliance trade, through the use of the trade protocol to be harnessed by economic operators.

- Involve micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) more actively in the bloc, fostering their internationalization and improvement of capacities.

- Consolidate the Pacific Alliance as a regional integration platform, expanding its membership with the accession of countries Costa Rica and Ecuador.

- Enhance the international projection of the mechanism, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, boosting negotiations with candidates for Associated States, particularly with South Korea.

- Strengthen the relationship with the 63 Observer States and other strategic partners such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

-Set dates for meetings of political authorities-National Coordinators, High-Level Group (Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade) and Council of Ministers.

-Resume the organization of a series of trade, investment, and tourism promotion events that will benefit our MSMEs through various platforms for their internationalization.

-In October, Peru will host the eighth Youth Meeting of the Pacific Alliance.
