More than 3,000 people participated in the Andean Identity Footrace held in the Peruvian capital, Lima, on Sunday, July 23.

The marathon's aim was to bring the Andean Community (CAN) closer to its citizens.

Amateur and elite athletes, as well as the general public, competed in the 5k race in the free, master, mobility impairment, visual impairment, and hearing impairment categories.

The sporting activity was attended by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ignacio Higueras, Andean Community Secretary General Diego Caicedo, and Municipality of Lima Human Development Manager Isabel Ayala.

The CAN's Secretary General highlighted the participation of citizens in this activity, which allowed them to learn more about the Andean integration process, as well as the rights and benefits for Andean citizens.

"It is important that Andean citizens become aware that, thanks to the CAN, they can travel within our region only with an ID card, and no visa or passport are required," Caicedo remarked.

Additionally, Andean citizens need to know "that international roaming charges have been removed since 2022, that special service counters are available at Jorge Chavez International Airport for Peruvian, Bolivian, Colombian, and Ecuadorian nationals, and that the CAN has a free trade area," he added.

Peru assumed the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Andean Community (CAN) for the 2022-2023 period in August last year.

The CAN is a regional integration organization seeking to create an integration area for economic and social development of Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru, through free trade in goods and the free movement of services, capital, and persons.
