Over 10 million people have received two COVID-19 vaccine doses in Peru

11:27 | Lima, Sep. 26.

To date, 10,012,956 people have been administered two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in Peru, thus becoming fully immunized and protected from severe illness and death due to the novel coronavirus, according to the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

This information was contained in the National Single Health Data Repository (Reunis) of Minsa.

A total of 25,233,161 doses have been administered across the country as of today, September 26, at 8:05 a.m. (local time), with 15,220,205 people receiving the first dose.

On Saturday, Health Minister Hernando Cevallos reported that 53% of the target population has been inoculated with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

"We continue moving forward in the vaccination process. In addition, 53% of the target population has already been inoculated with the first dose and 35% with both doses," he said in remarks delivered in Lima's San Juan de Lurigancho district.

Cevallos noted that, even though the percentage of vaccination of people aged 60 and over has been significant (more than 70%), this is clearly not enough.

Additional vaccines arriving in October

Regarding the arrival of additional vaccines in the country, the minister affirmed that smaller batches are expected this month. They will complete the 13 million doses that are scheduled to come this month.

"In October, Peru is scheduled to receive 6 million doses of Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, which are already confirmed. In addition, 8 million Sinopharm vaccines will be delivered via an agreement that was recently signed, which are due to arrive in October," he added.
