Spain's national postal service provider Correos and the Madrid-based Instituto Cervantes have released a postage stamp in honor of last year's Nobel Prize winner in literature, Peruvian author Mario Vargas Llosa.

The stamp, priced at €0.80 euros, was unveiled Monday at a ceremony attended by the president of Correos, Angel Agudo San Emeterio, and Instituto Cervantes director Carmen Caffarel.

Caffarel recalled the close relationship between Mario Vargas Llosa and the Institute, saying he is "one of our most beloved" writers. She also noted that "it is the first time Correos unveils a stamp at the Cervantes [Institute]."

For his part, Angel Agudo said that with this new stamp Correos wants to honor "a connoisseur of the human soul. Today, three hundred thousand opportunities arise to contribute to the recognition of one of the greatest contemporary writers in the Spanish language."

A total of 300,000 copies of the stamp were published to commemorate the first anniversary since the Peruvian writer won the Nobel Prize on October 7, 2010.
