The 28th Regular Meeting of the Andean Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the
Andean Community took place on Thursday, June 15 in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
During the meeting, the reactivation of the
Council of Ministers of Environmental and Sustainable Development Affairs of the Andean Community was approved in order to respond to the challenges arising from climate change and
El Niño phenomenon.
Likewise, the Council decided to grant the Hellenic Republic observer status at the CAN, with a view to strengthening the Andean bloc's international standing.
The meeting, convened by the Peruvian Pro-Tempore Presidency, reaffirms Peru's commitment to regional integration with a view to achieving concrete benefits in favor of all citizens across the Andean bloc.
Also attending the session were Bolivia's Foreign Trade and Integration Minister Benjamin Blanco, Colombia's Foreign Affairs Ministry Director Javier Higuera, Ecuador's Deputy Secretary for Latin America and the Caribbean Lotty Andrade, and CAN's Secretary General Ad Interim Diego Caicedo.
Earlier, representatives of Foreign Affairs and Trade Ministries from CAN Member Countries took part at the Seventh Meeting of the Working Group on the Evaluation of the Reform, Modernization, Strengthening, and Reengineering of the CAN held in Lima.
Within the framework of the meeting, the working group visited the Andean Community-Aramburu station of the Metropolitano rapid-transit bus system, the initiative seeks to bring citizens closer to the CAN.
