Machu Picchu: WTA distinction benefits Cusco and Peru

18:00 | Cusco (Cusco region), Nov. 15.

Cusco Province Mayor Victor Boluarte believes that the election of Machu Picchu —for the third consecutive year— as the "World's Leading Tourist Attraction 2022" at the global edition of the World Travel Awards, is a distinction not only for Cusco, but for Peru in general, noting that said award benefits all sectors, especially tourism.

"This new recognition comes because Machu Picchu has a number of features that perhaps make it unique and special in the world," Boluarte stated.

The mayor underscored that the Inca citadel not only has a unique landscape, natural, and ecological environment, but it is also a cultural heritage —of Inca architecture— that features very important and unique constructions.

In addition, the provincial government official affirmed that the Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu has an energetic, almost esoteric, mysterious atmosphere that is rarely found mixed with natural cultural attractions in the world.

In statements to Andina news agency, the provincial authority said that this distinctive feature of Machu Picchu continues to stand out from other attractions in the world and to get more distinctions.

In this regard, Boluarte commented that Cusco as a region could place greater importance on the economic activity of tourism.

Thus, not only Machu Picchu and Cusco, but also the whole of Peru can become more competitive in the tourism sector at the global level.

"Of course, we will use Machu Picchu to promote and articulate other tourist attractions not only to integrate the country in a more balanced fashion, but also to offer a comprehensive travel package across the world," he said.
