Around 5,000 people in Cusco have visited a temporary exhibition of over 360 archaeological pieces from Machu Picchu that were recently returned by Yale University.

The exhibition, which runs until Friday August 19, is taking place at the newly-renovated Casa Concha, a manor house located about half a block from Cusco’s main plaza.

The relics - stone tools, ceramics and human and animal bones - are being displayed in two rooms on the second floor of the house, owned by the Universidad Nacional San Antonio Abad de Cusco (UNSAAC).

According to UNSAAC's Rector Victor Raul Aguilar, doors will be open until 3 pm on Friday. Admission is free.

Meanwhile, Yale archaeology research associate Lucy Salazar pointed out that 80 percent of visitors are locals, including school and university students as well as public and private employees.

Earlier this year, Yale University signed an agreement to return to Peru some 5,000 Inca artifacts removed from the famed Machu Picchu citadel nearly a century ago.
