on Thursday presented the work being carried out to prepare for the upcoming 2027 Pan American and Parapan American Games at the Panam Sports Executive Committee meeting.
The government official outlined the planned actions to welcome more than 8,000 athletes and para-athletes who will take part in the continent's major multisport event.
"From the Organizing Committee, we are fully aware that Lima 2027 is built through planning, execution capacity and, above all, teamwork," Fernandez stated during the meeting, which was also attended by Panam Sports President Neven Ilic.
Regarding infrastructure, he explained that Lima 2027 is moving forward along three lines of action: the construction of new venues, led by the National Infrastructure Authority (ANIN); the optimization of existing facilities; and preventive and corrective maintenance, led by IPD.
Fernandez explained that the planning process includes gradual stages of assessment, prioritization, and implementation, taking into account the characteristics, criticality levels, and each sports venue's specific needs.
"The organization follows the same management sequence: diagnose, prioritize, execute, test, and make each venue available for the implementation of the Overlay," said Fernandez, who also chairs the Lima 2027 Organizing Committee.
During the presentation, the Lima 2027 Volunteer Program was also introduced.
It will bring together thousands of people to serve in more than 20 operational areas, including sporting competitions, transportation, technology, medical services, protocol, and spectator services.
The IPD chairman emphasized that each intervention carried out is part of Lima 2027's preparation process and helps ensure that the Games are organized in accordance with international standards.
The Lima 2027 Pan American Games will take place from July 23 to August 8.
It will bring together more than 8,000 athletes from 41 countries.
Subsequently, the Parapan American Games will gather the continent's top para-athletes, consolidating Peru as the host of one of the Americas' leading multisport events.
