Peruvian singer-songwriter Lucho Barrios, also known as the King of Bolero, has died of respiratory failure after fighting diabetes for several years.
Luis Barrios Rojas died at the age of 75 after being admitted to Lima’s Dos de Mayo Hospital with diabetes-related complications.
Hospital director Jose Fuente Rivera said the legendary Peruvian bolero singer was a diabetes patient who had previously suffered a heart attack. “He couldn't survive another heart attack, his heart did not respond,” said the doctor.
During his brilliant career, Lucho Barrios attracted a legion of fans in many Latin American countries such as Ecuador, Chile, Argentina and Mexico. He also performed on many of the world's great stages such as the Olympia theatre in Paris.
Among his greatest hits were early 60s recordings of "Marabú", "Me engañas mujer", "Mentirosa", "Te alejas", "Copas de licor", "
Mi niña bonita" and many more.
