Chile's president-elect, José Antonio Kast, in a meeting with Peruvian President José Jeri, proposed joint work with Peru today to combat organized crime and address irregular migration.
"As you say, one issue that affects us all is organized crime, which is a kind of transnational industry that respects neither borders nor flags. For this reason, we need to confront it together," said Kast.
He also specified that legislation is important in this matter, to provide physical security for individuals, but also legal certainty for investors.
In this context, Kast proposed "combating organized crime together, as well as irregular migration, which in some cases has been forced migration."
“Because democratic norms are not respected in some countries, there are people who, whether due to political persecution or economic hardship, have left their country against their will, and there is one nation on our continent with 8 million people in that situation. That affects us all,” he asserted.

Kast also said that other issues of interest to him include investment in industrial, commercial, tourism, and agricultural sectors, which are complementary.
“You have achieved something very important, which is generating irrigation in important areas of Peru. This has attracted a lot of Chilean investment, and we, since we already have technological advancements and other resources, are delighted to share all of that and to see Chilean investment in Peru,” he indicated.
The president-elect also said that Peru and Chile are neighbors and that there is nothing better than being good neighbors.
“That is what we strive for today: to have good relations with our neighbors,” he affirmed.
Finally, he stated that he does not want his country to be affected by illegal mining, which is part of organized crime, and that what is needed are international agreements to ensure that this mineral "has no outlet" through any port or airport of the nations surrounding the areas where illegal mining takes place.
The Chilean delegation, headed by Kast, was received at the Government Palace by the President of the Republic, José Jerí. Also present were the President of Congress, Fernando Rospigliosi, and several cabinet ministers.
