Jose Luis Sardon named Peru’s permanent representative to OAS

Jose Luis Sardon de Taboada has been appointed as the new Permanent Representative of Peru to the Organization of American States (OAS).

The appointment was made official by Supreme Resolution No. 062-2024-RE, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Tuesday.

According to the document, the corresponding credential letters and full powers will be granted to the new representative.

Likewise, the supreme resolution indicates that the date on which Sardon de Taboada will assume his duties is to be set by ministerial resolution.

Thus, he will assume the position that the current Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen had held until recently. 

The position will be based at the OAS headquarters, located in Washington, D.C., United States.

Career

Sardon de Taboada is a representative of private universities before the National Superintendence of Higher University Education (Sunedu)


Likewise, Peru's new permanent representative to the OAS has been a member of the Constitutional Court (TC) between 2014 and 2022, represented Peru at the Venice Commission (2017 - 2021), and is a founding member of the Reflexion Democratica (Democratic Reflexion) association.

On the academic level, he was a professor at San Ignacio de Loyola and Pacifico universities, and was the dean of the Faculty of Law at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC).
