Jorge Chavez International Airport passenger traffic projected at 28.4 million, up 11.3%

13:57 | Lima, Feb. 26.

Passenger traffic moving through Jorge Chavez International Airport—the main gateway to Lima—is projected to reach 28.4 million people this year, an 11.3% increase compared with 2025 levels, when 25.5 million travelers were recorded, Lima Airport Partners (LAP) Aviation Business Manager Jorge Villaseca said Thursday.

"It is an ambitious target supported not only by a larger infrastructure—three times the size of the former terminal—but by operational efficiency that positions us among the world’s leading airports, with higher on-time performance," he told Andina News Agency.

Villaseca said the improved outlook for this year reflects the intentions of new airlines to operate in Peru, as well as plans by existing carriers to expand routes and increase flight frequencies.

"Jorge Chavez International Airport is not only linked to air connectivity, but is also a development engine for the country," he remarked.

Type of passenger

The LAP official explained that within the passenger flow, tourists and business travel stand out, along with trips that ultimately reflect commercial activity not only in Lima but across regions.

At Jorge Chavez International Airport, 40% of passenger traffic is international, while 60% is accounted for by domestic flights.

In this regard, the manager said major airlines are making a strong push to secure more operations and higher flight frequencies, while several carriers are also interested in operating at Jorge Chavez International Airport on international routes.

"We work not only alongside international airlines aiming to expand their networks with more operations, higher frequencies and additional routes, but together with the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PromPeru) and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), so that tourist numbers reach higher levels," Villaseca stated.

All of this is underpinned by infrastructure that allows the airport to accommodate far more passengers than before, he added.
