Canadian movie star Jim Carrey visits on Thursday the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, after arriving in Peru’s southern Cusco region yesterday from Brazil, where he promoted his latest movie ‘Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

According to a correspondent of Andina news agency in Cusco, the lead actor of box office hits ‘The Mask’ and ‘How the Grinch stole Christmas’ left his hotel at 08.30 hours (15.00 GMT) and headed to Poroy train station, half hour away from the Imperial City.

The Hollywood actor arrived in the Machu Picchu district at 12.45 hours on the Hiram Bingham train and took a bus for a 30-minute ride to the Inca sanctuary.

Yesterday, Carrey posted on his Twitter account that he was visiting Peru to “search out ancient civilizations” and said that he was planning to climb to the top of Machu Picchu.

He also tweeted two pictures of the Peruvian Andes while flying above them.

The Canadian actor is visiting Machu Picchu just when Peru is about to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the inca citadel scientific discovery. A number of events are being carried out for this conmemoration, which main day is July 7.
