The entry into operation of the Intipampa Solar expansion plant strengthens renewable energy generation in southern Peru, highlighted Minister of Energy and Mines Guillermo Shinno.
He made these remarks during the inauguration of the solar plant, located in the Mariscal Nieto province, Moquegua region. The expansion adds 51 MW of capacity, bringing the facility’s total installed capacity to 91.7 MW.
In his address, the head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) emphasized the importance of expanding electricity generation infrastructure to support the country’s economic growth and meet rising energy demand, particularly from the mining sector.

The expansion of the Intipampa plant—operated by Engie Energía Perú—involved the installation of 88,101 photovoltaic panels, along with the necessary electrical infrastructure for the transformation and distribution of the generated energy, thereby bolstering the supply of renewable energy in the south of the country.
The Minister stressed that the development of new electricity generation and transmission projects must stay ahead of Peru’s energy needs, taking into account growth opportunities linked to mining and other productive sectors.
Also announced was the start of construction on the Hanaqpampa Solar Plant, also in Moquegua, which will feature an installed capacity of 140.8 MW, over 200,000 photovoltaic panels, and a 15 MW battery energy storage system (BESS).
Shinno reaffirmed MINEM’s commitment to fostering project development by streamlining procedures and eliminating inefficiencies, with the goal of facilitating project execution and creating new opportunities.
“Under the administration of President Keiko Fujimori, we are clear that we must unblock all projects—specifically, in the context of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), those related to electricity, hydrocarbons, and mining—and ensure that investments move forward much more quickly,” he emphasized.
Participants included Myriam Akhoun, CEO of Engie Energía Perú; Julio Silvestre, Director General of Rural Electrification at Minem; Oscar Mena, Head of the General Office for Social Management at Minem; and Rudolf Gutiérrez, Deputy Mayor of the Mariscal Nieto Provincial Municipality.
