The Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Thursday announced the start of the fifth wave in Peru given the sustainable increase in infections, hospitalizations, and deaths due to coronavirus.

Director of Public Health Surveillance at Minsa's National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) Cesar Munayco specified that this fifth wave is confirmed after the epidemiological evaluation conducted at the national level.

Along these lines, the official said this fifth wave will be of a lesser magnitude compared to previous ones.

Yet —he said— it will be necessary to take preventive measures and for the population to respond properly so as to avoid a much greater increase in cases, as well as in hospitalized and deceased citizens.
