Pan American Games champion Gladys Tejeda is the first Peruvian athlete to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the
Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) has reported.
A few weeks ago, the Peruvian athlete —who is part of the Athlete Support Program (PAD) sponsored by the IPD— achieved the qualifying time for the Valencia Marathon, where she clocked 2:26.26.
"I want to share with all Peruvians the joy of being the first Peruvian to qualify for my fourth Olympic Games in Paris 2024, thus achieving the qualification standard in the Valencia Marathon, by running a time of 2:26.26," the athlete remarked.
"The illusion of representing the Red-White Team fills me with excitement and a lot of enthusiasm. I hope all Peruvians' support and backing to keep up the work that I have been doing," she added.
It should be noted that World Athletics was responsible for setting minimum qualification standards for the Olympic Games.
The minimum qualification time for the women's marathon is 2:26.50. This includes athletes who qualified after November 1, 2022.
These will be the Peruvian long-distance runner's fourth Olympic Games after London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020.
