The Inca citadel of Macchu Picchu made its debut as the backdrop for a song-and-dance sequence in the Indian movie "Endhiran” (The Robot), which is said to be the most expensive Indian movie made untill date.

The film, starring Indian megastart Rajnikant and former Miss World and actress Aishwariya Rai bachchan, tells the story of a robot called Chitti that falls in love with his creator's girlfriend.

Released worldwide on 1 October 2010, the science fiction movie was written and directed by S. Shankar and produced by Kalanithi Maran.

The film's story revolves around the scientist's struggle to control his creation, the android robot whose software was upgraded to give it the ability to comprehend and generate human emotions. The plan backfires as the robot falls in love with the scientist's fiancée and is further manipulated to bring destruction to the world when it lands in the hands of a rival scientist.

This musical shot in the beautiful mountainous locations of Machu Picchu in Peru had a budget of around US$36.5 million, while other more expensive Indian films total US$20 million.
