The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday stated that Peru advocates strengthening a safe, efficient, and rules-based maritime transport system, in line with the standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In that regard, the government agency expressed its support for Panama in its effort to uphold international law and the principles of fair maritime practice.

"It supports Panama, as a responsible flag State, in its effort to ensure compliance with international law and the principles of fair maritime practice, reaffirming the importance of dialogue and regional cooperation," the Ministry stated on X.

The IMO is the United Nations specialized agency responsible for the safety and security of maritime transport, as well as for preventing marine and atmospheric pollution from ships.
