Foreign Affairs Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea on Monday reaffirmed Peru's commitment to the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, whose presidency will be handed over by the United States in the city of San Francisco.
Likewise, the minister highlighted the work being carried out by the members of the APEC team at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with whom he held a long meeting prior to his presentation before Congress, which authorized President Boluarte's trip to the United States.
Work agenda
Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea will be in San Francisco from November 13 to 18 to participate in the activities to be conducted within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
As part of his work agenda, the government official will join the
President of the Republic Dina Boluarte during the
30th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, the
APEC CEO Summit, and the
Dialogue between APEC Economic Leaders and the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).
APEC summit in Peru
A Foreign Affairs Ministry's multidisciplinary delegation, led by chair of the APEC Peru 2024 Presidency Working Group, Ambassador Carlos Chavez-Taffur, is currently in the U.S. to make the necessary arrangements once Peru assumes the forum's presidency.
In 2024, Peru will become the Asia-Pacific's development capital, as it will have the opportunity to foster economic policies that promote free, just, and open trade among APEC member economies.
The five cities chosen as the venues for such an important event
(Trujillo, Arequipa, Cusco, Pucallpa, and Lima) have different characteristics that are conducive to host various meetings of the forum.
The event will create temporary jobs and a positive impact on different local and regional businesses, mainly those in the accommodation, food, and transportation industries, and on services linked to the organization of the forum.
