stressed that Peru, at the international level, is once again positioning itself as an attractive destination for investment and the attention of multilateral organizations.
The economist said the progressive recovery of investment expectations is the outcome of improvement in domestic investors' confidence in Peru —a situation that is being reflected abroad as well.
"This domestic confidence is also witnessed at the international level, with a series of signs that you already know about very well, (such as) credit rating reaffirmation, recognition by international organizations, and international visits," Contreras specified.
"Once again, there is a repositioning of Peru at the international level, which is important to recognize, because that helps restore confidence in the country and makes investment arrive more promptly," he underlined.
The high-ranking official said that, given the domestic and external situation, Peru has maintained its fiscal strength and remains the country with the lowest debt in Latin America.
"We are a solid country, and that is reflected in Peru's (country) risk. Peru's (country) risk, despite the ravages that Peru has suffered —such as droughts, cold spells, Coastal El Niño, Global El Niño, conflict, despite everything— it remains one of the economies with the highest positioning in Latin America, and I would say, at the emerging countries level, it is something that must be highlighted," he stressed.
Contreras made these remarks as he participated in the Congress' Budget and General Account Commission on Thursday.
