Peru expressed its strong condemnation of the murder of six Israeli hostages who had been held since October 7 as part of Hamas terrorist attacks; and conveyed its deepest condolences to the victims' families.

This was stated by the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the X platform Sunday night.

"Peru reiterates the urgency of achieving an immediate and definitive ceasefire, and demands the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas, in accordance with the provisions of the (UN) Security Council Resolution No. 2735 dated June 10," the official communiqué reads.

The discovery in Gaza of the bodies of six Israeli hostages held captive by Hamas sparked a wave of protests and a general strike in Israel.

The bodies of the six hostages –two women and four men aged between 23 and 40– were found by the Army in a tunnel in southern Gaza on Saturday.

They were all kidnapped by militants on October 7, when Hamas carried out the attack against Israel that triggered the war and left a total of 1,200 dead and 251 kidnapped individuals.
