Foreign Affairs Minister Hugo de Zela, along with Deputy Mines Minister Carlos Talavera, will travel to Washington, D.C., United States, today, to take part in the Critical Minerals Ministerial, with the aim of strengthening Peru's position and projecting its image as a reliable partner in the global supply of these resources.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 4. It was convened by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Peru has a solid mining tradition, world-class critical mineral reserves, and a stable investment framework.

In this regard, the South American country plays a key role in the security and diversification of global critical mineral supply chains—inputs that are now strategic to economic stability and national security.

During the ministerial forum, Minister De Zela and Deputy Minister Talavera will seek to strengthen partnerships that enable the country to anticipate market trends—particularly in response to demand driven by energy transition, digitalization, and development—and to secure its integration into technological cooperation initiatives.

Likewise, the Peruvian diplomat will carry out a bilateral agenda with senior representatives of the U.S. Executive and Legislative branches.

The purpose is to strengthen bilateral strategic partnership ties and deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
