on Wednesday pointed out that exercising the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum's presidency for the third time means for Peru the reaffirmation of its reinsertion into the international arena.
The Executive Branch representative indicated that this process is part of the current government's foreign policy developed through the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
"It is a reaffirmation of the full reinsertion of Peru into the international arena through foreign policy," he stated during an interview with Red de Comunicacion Regional (RCR).
The Cabinet member said that an
example of this statement were the meetings with senior officials and businesspeople that both President Dina Boluarte and other government representatives held at the APEC 2023 summit, in San Francisco, United States, in November last year.
In this sense, Minister Gonzalez-Olaechea underscored that the Head of State had held seven meetings with counterparts and other high-level officials, such as those responsible for the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
This number is higher than the one usually held by leaders at events like this, he pointed out.
Business and investment
The government official indicated that to make the most of the advantages that APEC can mean for Peru, there is the participation of member economies' private business sector through specialized meetings to take place in Peru throughout this year.
"We are all going into APEC mode," Gonzalez-Olaechea expressed.
He explained that this aims to spread the benefits of this international meeting "at every space that opens the doors to us, so that everyone can understand the magnitude of what it means."
The high-ranking official also pointed out that the creation of agreements and business possibilities will have a positive impact on citizens' economy.
"It is a mega event, a great organizational challenge," he concluded.
