Foreign Affairs Minister Carlos Espa chaired at Torre Tagle Palace the inaugural meeting of the Extraordinary High-Level Commission "The Visit of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV," in charge of coordinating actions for the preparation and implementation of the Holy Father's apostolic visit to Peru.

The Extraordinary High-Level Commission was established by Supreme Decree No. 037-2026-RE.

The group is composed of State ministers and their representatives.

Similarly, it includes Raul Diez Canseco, the honorary high-level adviser for His Holiness' visit.

The commission aims to establish the guidelines, strategies, and actions necessary to ensure the success of Pope Leo XIV's visit to Peru, as well as coordinate the efforts of various State entities involved in its preparation and implementation, in accordance with the provisions established by President Keiko Fujimori.

During the session, Minister Espa presented the commission's organization and responsibilities.

He underscored the importance of working in a coordinated, efficient, and integrated manner to meet the challenge of preparing for this historic visit.

Likewise, the Cabinet member highlighted the special significance of the apostolic visit for the Peruvian people.

Furthermore, he noted that His Holiness' presence will provide an opportunity to strengthen the values of dialogue, unity, and national reconciliation.

The meeting enabled the gathering of comments and contributions from the heads and representatives of the ministries that make up the commission regarding the responsibilities that will correspond to each entity.

It also made it possible to identify priorities requiring immediate attention to ensure the apostolic visit's success.

During the session, the private sector's commitment to collaborate with the Extraordinary High-Level Commission's work was highlighted.

His Holiness Pope Leo XIV's apostolic visit to Peru will take place from November 11 to 16, 2026.

It will include the cities of Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa.
