Foreign nationals married to Peruvian citizens may apply for citizenship in Peru through the marriage-based route, provided they meet the requirements established under current regulations, the National Superintendence of Migrations (Migraciones) reported on Monday.

To access this benefit, the applicant must prove at least two years of marriage to a Peruvian citizen and must have resided continuously in the country during that same period.

The procedure is carried out online through the Migraciones Digital Agency document submission platform, after paying S/204.40 (about US$58) under code 07564 at Banco de la Nacion (Bank of the Nation) or via the págalo.pe platform.

Among the main requirements, applicants must have no criminal, police, or judicial records, either in Peru or abroad. They must present a valid Carnet de Extranjeria (Foreigner Identification Card).

Likewise, the applicant must correctly fill out Form PA – Naturalization and attach the original marriage certificate registered with the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC), issued no more than 30 calendar days earlier.

Naturalization ceremony

Once the application is approved, the National Superintendence of Migrations will contact the applicant to inform them of the date, time, and location of the naturalization ceremony.

At the event, they will take an oath of allegiance to the Political Constitution of Peru and the country's laws.

Following this process, the individual may apply for a National Identity Document (DNI) at the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC), in accordance with the established requirements.
