Importers from Germany, Spain and France showed interest in purchasing Cumbe cherimoya, which is native to the coastal valleys of Peru.
This product is recognized for its high quality, since it is very fleshy, has few seeds and a smooth skin and it is produced in the province of Huarochiri, situated 45 km (27.9 miles) from the Peruvian capital, Lima.

In this regard, Rosa Vasquez Square, Huarochiri's mayor, said that they signed an agreement with the authorities of the Sierra Exportadora program (currently in a partnership stage), in order to allocate the cherimoya Cumbe in the European market.

"Working with Sierra Exportadora technicians to try to find the way to properly package the Cherimoya so that it won't ripen as fast, a difficulty that we have had for a long time, will be intense," said the provincial authority.

The chirimoya from Cumbe, which is registered at Indecopi as a collective mark of the people of Cumbe under the name Chirimoya Cumbe, is located at 1,300 metres above sea level.

It's a fruit rich in vitamin C, glucose, phosphorus, iron and calcium. It has potassium, magnesium, folic acid and antioxidants as well as low cholesterol content.

The Chirimoya Cumbe is also planted in the neighbouring towns of Cocachacra, Lanka, Callahuanca, Salpin, Tapicara; in the North of Lima, in Canta and Huaral, and other regions of Peru.

The mayor explained that about 150 producers participated in the event that took place last Sunday in the community of San Antonio de Cumbe (district of San Mateo de Otao - Huarochiri Province); and that they had achieved an attendance of 8,000 domestic and foreign tourists who tasted the delicious fruit in 14 presentations, as spirits, chiri-sour cocktail, cakes, pies, ice cream and yogurt, among others.
