Elections 2026: Peru ratifies international agreements for election observation

The Peruvian Government ratified two international agreements that will guarantee observation of the April 12, 2026 General Elections and a possible presidential runoff on June 7, 2026.

The agreements were made official through Supreme Decrees No. 013-2026-RE and 014-2026-RE, published in the Official Gazette El Peruano on Tuesday.

The documents were signed on January 14 and February 9, 2026, respectively.

The first establishes the privileges and immunities of observers sent by the Organization of American States (OAS).


Both organizations will be responsible for supervising the conduct of the elections, monitoring legality, and reporting possible irregularities.

According to the regulation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be responsible for publishing the full texts of the agreements and informing Congress of the Republic about their ratification.
