Cuban teams training at high altitude in Peru

The Cuban national volleyball teams of both genders are currently training at a high altitude base in Peru as part of their preparations for the very busy 2011 season.

Both teams are scheduled to return to the country on April 10 to complete their preparations for this year’s season which includes the FIVB Volleyball World League, the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, the Pan American Games and the NORCECA Continental Championships, Pan American Cups and Olympic Qualifiers.

Several young players have been included in the training as many are set to compete at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship in Peru and the FIVB Volleyball Boy’s Youth World Championship due to take place in Argentina, fivg.org reported.

The men’s squad, under the supervision of coach Orlando Samuels and assisted by Idalberto Valdez and Nicolas Vives, is comprised of middle blockers Roberlandy Simon, Osmany Camejo, Isbel Mesa and newcomer Dariel Albo; outside hitters Wilfredo Leon, Rolando Cepeda, Henry Bell and young Lazaro Fundora; opposites Fernando Hernandez and rookie Livan Osoria. Setters Raydel Hierrezuelo, Yoandry Diaz and Leandro Macías and liberos Keibel Gutierrez and Yosiel Guillen.

The women’s team, coached by Juan Carlos Gala with assistants Eidel George and Regla Torres, includes outside hitters Kenia Carcaces, Yoana Palacio and Wilma Salas, middle blockers Rachel Sánchez, Gyselle de la Caridad Silva, Rosanna Giel and Daimara Lescay, setters Yusidey Silié and Ana Yilian Cleger along with youngsters Alena Rojas, Emily Borrell, Yenifer Álvarez, Dayamí Sánchez and Eglys Sasvin.
