Peru’s Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported Wednesday twelve new cases of A/H1N1 influenza, including eight minors, bringing the total number of people diagnosed with the illness nationwide to 77.

New cases include a 6-year-old girl residing in Junin, 3 seven-year-old children (1 boy residing in Lima and 2 girls from Huánuco).

Other confirmed cases include a 9-year-old girl residing in Huanuco; a 10-year-old girl living in Lima; and two teenagers (boy and girl) aged 11 and 12 years old from Huánuco.

In addition to four citizens (two of them living in Lima and aged 20 years, a 23-year-old woman also from Lima, and a 44-year-old woman from Huánuco).

The twelve new cases remain under medical supervision, home insulation, antiviral treatment and have favorable evolution, reported Minsa.

According to the Ministry, health services are prepared and in a state of alert. The country is provided with sufficient and appropriate treatment to tackle any emergency situation related to this pandemic.

It is worth mentioning that, from April 24 until early hours of today (07:14 hrs / 12:14 GMT), June 10, the Jorge Chavez International Airport has received 2082 flights with 260429 passengers and 16196 crew members. They were checked by local health officials.

None of them presented symptoms and everyone signed a commitment to be located if necessary.

Minsa urged Peruvian citizens not to lower their guard and continue to take preventive measures against the new influenza A(H1N1), since the World Health Organization ( WHO) is considering raising pandemic alert to Phase 6.

The government has imposed strict immigration control at the borders.
