Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Monday morning arrived in Lima to participate in the XXII Andean Presidential Council, in which Peru will assume the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Andean Community (CAN) for the 2022-2023 period.

After getting off the Colombian Air Force aircraft, Mr. Petro was welcomed by the Vice-President of the Republic of Peru, Dina Boluarte, and received the corresponding honors.

Mrs. Boluarte underscored that the Colombian leader's presence strengthens regional integration, friendship with that country, and Latin American democracy.

The Peruvian Head of State, Pedro Castillo, today will receive the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the aforementioned bloc from his Ecuadorian counterpart, Guillermo Lasso, who arrived in Lima on Sunday night.

Moreover, the President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Luis Arce Catacora, is also expected to arrive in Peru to attend the meeting along with the other dignitaries.

Established in 1969, the Andean Community is an integration mechanism currently comprising Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
