China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Thursday authorized Chinese travel agencies to resume the sale of overseas travel packages for Chinese groups. Among the 78 countries included in the third published list, Peru, the United States, Mexico, and the United Kingdom stand out.
It is important to note that China is the main market for outbound tourists to Peru from the Asia-Pacific region.
Besides, this measure should generate an increase in the frequency of flights from China to the United States, making a positive impact on arrivals in South America, reducing travel costs by having better flight options.
This activity will see the participation of 15 Peruvian companies that will resume commercial relations with the Chinese tourism industry.
In addition, six Peruvian companies will be present at the ITB Asia 2023 Fair to be held in Singapore. ITB Asia is the premier event for the Asia-Pacific travel industry, where buyers come mostly from China and India.
According to McKinsey & Company —a global management consulting firm headquartered in New York— this year, Chinese outbound trips will recover to 100% of 2019 figures. From there, it will grow rapidly above the levels of four years ago, as the lack of travels during the pandemic generated an extraordinary amount of savings.
From January to June 2023, Peru received 7,500 Chinese tourists, an expansion of 208% compared to the same period of the previous year.
It is important to note that Chinese tourists spent US$69.5 million in Peru in 2019. Abroad, they spent over US$280 billion. Besides, more than US$90 billion was invested in luxury goods, by far the highest figure in the global system.
