Peru's exports totaled US$9.415 billion in May 2026, marking a 38.9% increase compared with the same month a year earlier, driven mainly by higher international prices for the country's leading export products and, to a lesser extent, by a greater volume of shipments, the
According to the institution, the export price index increased 31.2% year on year, supported by higher international quotations for copper and gold.
Higher prices for oil and natural gas, linked to the conflict in the Middle East, as well as increases in fishmeal and lead quotations, contributed to the growth.
Meanwhile, export volume grew 5.9% compared with May 2025, driven by higher shipments of gold, refined copper, and iron.
Among traditional exports, shipment volumes of copper (6.2%), gold (10.9%), and coffee (25%) posted notable increases.
Meanwhile, prices for copper and gold rose 44.3% and 39.4%, respectively, compared with the same month a year earlier.
In contrast, non-traditional exports volume declined 7.3% year on year, although the export price index increased 5.4%.
Among the sectors, non-metallic mining posted a 19.8% increase in export volume, while fisheries recorded a 6.6% gain.
Year-to-date
The BCR also reported that Peru's exports reached US$47.345 billion between January and May 2026, up 40.1% from the same period in 2025.
This result was supported by a 35.4% increase in export prices.
