The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) group on Food Security Policies has established its work plan for this year, at a plenary session organized by the Peruvian Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

Deputy Policies and Supervision of Agrarian Development Minister Victor Parra highlighted this progress as he chaired said meeting on Saturday.

The government official noted that the approved plan focuses on seeking sustainable growth for resilient development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Likewise, he reiterated the commitment to achieving the goals under the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, as well as those established in the Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030, to ensure access to sufficient, safe, affordable, and nutritious food, and to satisfy dietary needs and food preferences aimed at promoting an active and healthy life.

This plan considers the development of principles to reduce and prevent food losses and waste, with the aim of establishing a guiding framework for APEC economies, so that they can design and implement policies that address this problem, and thus strengthen food systems.

The session was attended by agricultural sector senior officials from the 21 APEC economies. Its purpose was to continue the search for measures and tools to achieve sustainable food systems contributing to the food and nutritional security of the population, as well as to improve the living conditions of agricultural producers.

Likewise, it was agreed that, within the activities planned for this year, APEC members will seek to strengthen the private sector's participation in the field of food security, through greater involvement of the APEC Business Advisory Council.
