12:00 | Pucallpa (Ucayali region), Sep. 11.
Pucallpa is the Peruvian city that hosts the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum's SME Week, which takes place from September 9 to 13, with the main event being the 30th Small and Medium Enterprises Ministerial Meeting (SMEMM).
The "APEC SME Week" began in the eastern Peruvian city on Monday with the Small and Medium Enterprises Working Group Workshop titled "Building a collaborative ecosystem for resilient economies through MSMEs: sustainable development policies and new technologies."
Similarly, the delegates participated in a technical visit to the Center for Productive Innovation and Technology Transfer - CITEforestal Pucallpa.
The objective of the aforementioned workshop was to foster the exchange of experiences and best practices on the importance of promoting sustainability among micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises through the implementation of innovation and technology, within the framework of circular economy.
Thus, it is expected that participants will establish cooperative relationships which facilitate the development of projects contributing to the growth of MSMEs, with a focus on sustainability and innovation.
On the other hand, the technical visit to the
CITEforestal Pucallpa enabled delegates to explore the wood value chain's production process, as well as discover the technology transfer and innovation services offered to MSMEs through initiatives by the
Production Ministry (Produce).
In the APEC region, MSMEs are crucial to economic growth, accounting for over 97% of all businesses and employing more than half of the workforce across the 21 APEC member economies.
Until September 13, various activities, including cooperation, cultural, and academic events, among others, will be held with the participation of public officials, private sector representatives, and academicians from the bloc, with the aim of strengthening the capacities of MSMEs.
In this context, the
30th APEC SME Ministerial Meeting stands out. It will be led by the
Production Ministry (Produce) and will address important issues for the development of
MSMEs, such as the transition to formal economy, access to global value chains, the use of digitalization and innovative tools in their operations, among others.
Pucallpa thus becomes the focus of attention in the region and a strategic opportunity, standing out due its location and the abundance of natural resources it hosts, as it is the venue for APEC events.
Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
