Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer and his Canadian counterpart Mélanie Joly reaffirmed the excellent state of relations between both nations, emphasizing the solid economic ties and Canada's support in areas of cooperation and Peru's accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

In the context of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, both ministers held a bilateral meeting aimed at assessing and strengthening collaboration between the two nations.

During the meeting, the dignitaries emphasized the excellent state of relations between Peru and Canada, highlighting the significant economic and trade ties that connect them.

One of the key topics discussed was cooperation, which has made Canada the third-largest cooperating partner for Peru.

In this regard, they highlighted the cooperation flows that contribute to strategic sectors for Peru's development, demonstrating Canada's commitment to supporting projects across various areas within the South American nation.

On the other hand, both ministers recognized Canada's support for Peru's efforts to join the OECD.

This Peruvian aspiration is backed by Canada, which has expressed its strong support for Peru's inclusion in this international organization —a move that would significantly contribute to Peru's economic and social progress on the global stage.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
