Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PromPeru) Executive President, Ricardo Limo, stated that there is interest from airlines in Japan, the People's Republic of China, and Türkiye in entering the Peruvian market, and that the Lima-London connection is currently being upgraded.

Remarks were made during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders' Week taking place in Lima.

"Indeed, there are airlines from Japan, the People's Republic of China, and Türkiye showing interest, as well as the Lima-London connection previously operated by LATAM, which is currently being upgraded. We are hopeful for good news in the coming weeks," he told Andina News Agency.

Limo mentioned that Peru used to receive 4.4 million foreign tourists annually before the Covid-19 pandemic, but this figure declined due to climatic and social issues. However, a recovery is now evident.

"We have already regained some of that tourist influx; we hope to reach, and even surpass, 4.4 million visitors next year," he emphasized.

Limo also noted that, given the improved global economic outlook for next year, potential tourists are expected to be encouraged to travel and visit Peru.

Exports

On the other hand, the PromPeru official noted that the Peruvian economy is expected to grow between 3% and 4%, with hopes of surpassing this rate in the coming years, driven by exports.

Limo highlighted that exports are one of the main economic drivers, having grown by 14% from January to September of this year compared to the same period in 2023.

As a result, there are expectations of breaking the record of more than US$64 billion achieved previously.

"By the end of this year, we (exports) will be reaching US$71 billion, which is quite a significant figure, and in 2025, it (the figure) will exceed US$75 billion. Therefore, I believe that exports, as a driver of the economy, will be a fundamental element for this growth," he emphasized.

Peru is hosting APEC for the third time after the 2008 and 2016 editions.
