The Ambassador of Peru to Israel, Javier Sanchez-Checa, reported that no Peruvian citizens have been killed or injured in said part of the Middle East as a result of Iran's missile attack against Israel.

The diplomat stated that members of the Peruvian community in Israel are safe, as well as in constant contact with the embassy and consular services. Thus, they remain alert to any needs that may arise.

Sanchez-Checa specified that current efforts are focused primarily on Peruvian citizens stranded in the territory.

This group includes tourists and individuals present for work who were caught off guard by the start of hostilities.

The Peruvian ambassador said that authorities have so far located about 12 tourists and called for broad dissemination of the information to help find others who may be in the same situation.

In this regard, the diplomat noted his priority is to arrange transportation for them to the border between Israel and Jordan or Egypt once the situation becomes calmer, noting that the country is currently under a nationwide state of emergency in effect for 48 hours.

He added that approximately 3,500 Peruvians with dual nationality reside in Israel.

They are well established and distributed across several cities in the central and northern parts of the country, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

In their case, the diplomat said that if the situation were to escalate, arrangements would be made to evacuate them to safer areas, but that there is currently no need to do so.

"Israel's defense shield and weapons systems have prevented (the bombings) from reaching these cities where Peruvians do live. Unfortunately, it is already known that there have been two direct impacts, one in Tel Aviv and another in Jerusalem, with casualties. But overall, fortunately, there are no Peruvian victims or citizens to mourn," Sanchez-Checa told TV Peru on Sunday.

Situation of Peruvians in Iran

Asked about Peruvians in Iran, the ambassador said the Embassy of Peru in Türkiye is responsible for monitoring the situation of Peruvian nationals there who require assistance.

The diplomat mentioned he is aware the consular staff assigned by that embassy already has a list and that it involves only a small number of people, estimating no more than a dozen.

"I also understand that they have already been located, in case an urgent evacuation is needed," Sanchez-Checa pointed out.
