The variety and richness of Peruvian gastronomy gives it the potential to become known around the world, Algerian Ambassador to Peru Mohammed Bensabri said Tuesday after noting that several ingredients come from the Arab world.
The ambassador went on to say that many Peruvian dishes are the product of the fusion of European, Asian influences, and local ingredients as well as some flavours similar to Arab dishes.
Furthermore, the diplomat said that some ingredients for Peruvian dishes, like lemons which are essential in the preparation of ceviche, are from Arab origin. Olives, which are grown in the Peruvian coast, comes also from that region.
According to Bensabri, the Arab cultural influence can also be seen in the architecture of some of old buildings such as the Peruvian Chancellery.
