2026 Elections: EU EOM urges massive voter turnout in Peru

15:00 | Lima, Mar. 9.

European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) Deputy Chief Observer Alexander Gray called on Peruvian citizens to exercise their right to vote and turn out in large numbers for the April 12 General Elections.

"We call on Peruvian electors to exercise their right to vote and to participate massively in the elections, because in this way they will be able to decide the future of their country," the foreign official said in remarks to Andina News Agency.

Likewise, Gray noted the mission maintains good cooperation with all electoral authorities, "with whom we have held high-level meetings."

"Similarly, our observers will remain in permanent contact with the electoral administration, since they are working in all regions of this country," he stated.

The deputy chief observer said the EU EOM's 10-member core team arrived in the city of Lima on February 26.

Gray added that this group will increase ahead of the electoral process.

"In mid-March, 50 long-term observers will join this group and be deployed across the country's various regions. Before the vote, 50 short-term observers, a delegation from the European Parliament, and diplomats from European Union member states accredited in Peru will join the mission," he said.

Gray also reminded citizens that the mission will remain in Peru "until the conclusion of the electoral process."
