The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti announced that 117,000 COVID-19 vaccines —acquired through the COVAX Facility mechanism— will arrive in Peru on Wednesday.

In remarks to Salvese Quien Puede online interview show on Friday evening, the Head of State indicated that this cargo will be added to the 50,000 doses directly purchased from Pfizer pharmaceutical company.

"Instead of having 50,000 vaccines, we will have 167,000 vaccines," he highlighted.

"We are doing the impossible, negotiating with nine laboratories simultaneously to have as many vaccines as possible," he emphasized.

AstraZeneca

The statesman also said that around 1.2 million doses of AstraZeneca could arrive through the COVAX Facility.

AstraZeneca must request its corresponding registration to Peru's General Directorate for Medicines, Input, and Drugs (Digemid), but the laboratory has not requested that yet.

"(…) we are making the arrangements with them," Mr. Sagasti indicated.

More doses

The President also reminded the interviewers that there are currently contracts signed for 48 million doses.

Nonetheless, delivery times range from now until year's end, and the bulk comes in the second half of 2021.
