COVAX Facility vaccines arrive in Peru

The first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines by the COVAX Facility mechanism —consisting of 117,500 doses from Pfizer pharmaceutical company— landed in Peru on Wednesday evening.

Brought via KLM flight 743, this batch arrived at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport at 7:00 p.m. (local time).

Following customs procedures, the batch was taken to the warehouses of the National Center for Supply of Strategic Resources in Health (Cenares).

The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti was present at the airport during the arrival of the flight that delivered this cargo to the country.

Precisely, the Head of State had announced that the COVAX Facility initiative would expedite the shipment of vaccines from Pfizer and AstraZeneca for the first quarter of 2021.

For his part, Health Minister Oscar Ugarte indicated that this batch coincided with the other 50,000 doses acquired by the Government directly from Pfizer. Thus, a higher amount of doses was received on the occasion.
