Peru economy to expand above 5% in April and May 2018

Peru’s GDP will expand above 5% in April and May 2018, after having registered a growth rate of 3.93% last March, Economy and Finance Minister David Tuesta projected.

According to the cabinet member, projections by the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) and Economy-Finance Ministry (MEF) show Peruvian economy may increase 5% and 6% in April and May, respectively.

Likewise, he noted the latest MEF report —published on Tuesday— revealed national GDP neared 4% in March.

During his presentation before Congress Budget Commission, the minister also underlined demand is boosting economic activity in the Inca country.

"We have to create jobs. For the first time, on the (BCR) survey, job creation expectations became positive (…)," Tuesta pointed out.

Peru's GDP is expected to expand 3.6% in 2018.

Commitments 

Below are the Executive Power's commitments in the economic field:
  1. GDP growth: From 2.5% in 2017 to 5% in 2021.
  2. Private investment growth: From 0.3% in 2017 to 8% in 2021.
  3. Poverty reduction: From 21.7% in 2017 to 18% in 2021.
