Peru: Arequipa launches destination brand to boost tourism industry

Regional Government of Arequipa launched a new brand to attract domestic and foreign visitors to the area at a meeting with entrepreneurs, members of the local Chamber of Commerce.

Under the name of Marca Destino Arequipa (Arequipa Destination Brand), the initiative attempts to promote tourist sites in Peru's southern region.

The ceremony was presided over by Regional Governor Yamila Osorio, who unveiled the brand's logo. 


According to the authority, the brand will increase foreign tourist arrivals to the region, and the goal is to work with public and private sectors to put Arequipa in the international spotlight.

The logo is supposed to embody Arequipa's character, attractions and potentials —identified by its inhabitants— as well as promote them among tourists and investors.


Arequipa Destination Brand

The logo consists of the capital letter A that resembles Arequipa's most prominent attraction: The Misti Volcano.

Likewise, the body of the letter contains Arequipa's distinctive elements evoking ashlar carved figures, valleys, canyons, mountains, the Andean condor, rivers, the ocean, beaches, boats, gastronomy, and the sun.
